Isle of Axholme businesses urged to get share of £1.5m funding pot

North Lincolnshire is one of the first five areas in the UK to launch the LEADER Programme, which aims to create jobs, develop rural business and support the rural economy.

As part of the initiative, the funding has been allocated to the Local Action Group in North Lincolnshire, which is made up of members of the public from across all sectors, including public, private and socio-economic.

The LAG money will be used to fund farmers, foresters, rural businesses and rural communities within North and North East Lincolnshire and is available until 2020.

There are six funding priorities, including support for rural tourism, increase forestry, support for micro and small enterprises and farm diversification, and providing more rural services.

The scheme is backed by Axholme councillor and North Lincolnshire Council leader Liz Redfern and businesses are invited to put their ideas forward and apply for funding grants from the LAG.

Marcus Walker, assistant director of planning and regeneration at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to receive a share of the money to help create jobs, develop rural businesses and support the rural economy. If you are interested in taking part in the programme, you need to apply for the funding and make sure you have some sound ideas.”

The programme was launched last week at Forest Pines in Broughton. Visitors were invited to look at a programme overview followed by a surgery event for potential applicants to speak with advisors in detail about project ideas. For more information visit www.northlincs.gov.uk
