Alex Sahin, owner of Pisces Fish Bar, was delighted his fish and chip shop came first after being runner-up last year.

He has worked in kitchens for 25 years and was a fishmonger before he dived into the world of fish and chips.

He said: “It’s great to hear that we’re number one. Hard work and dedication have paid off.

“I want to say a massive thank you to our customers for coming back time and time again.

“They’re lovely people around here.”

To celebrate his win Alex will be offering half price in the shop in a few weeks’ time.

“I would like to thank them for voting for us and putting us in the top three again – this is the third year in a row.

Bob and his family are originally from Wolverhampton but moved up north to follow their business dreams.

John Xenofomtos, owner of Fish Bits on Carr House Road in Doncaster town centre, has always been a part of the fish and chip shop business.

He said: “My grandfather started in fish and chips in 1957 in Liverpool.

“It’s a thing that I was born into not taught – we’ve been doing this for quite a few years.

“It’s a passion and something that we enjoy.”

John says the reason they have done so well in the competition is their customer service.
