Alex Sahin, owner of Pisces Fish Bar, was delighted his fish and chip shop came first after being runner-up last year.

He has worked in kitchens for 25 years and was a fishmonger before he dived into the world of fish and chips.

He said: “It’s great to hear that we’re number one. Hard work and dedication have paid off.

“It has been three years since we opened and I have transformed it completely. I’ve never had a day off.

“I want to say a massive thank you to our customers for coming back time and time again.

“They’re lovely people around here.”

To celebrate his win Alex will be offering half price in the shop in a few weeks’ time.

Golden Cod York Road has been a staple in Scawsby for seven years.

Fish Bits staff with their certificate.

Owner Bob Singh said: “It’s a family run business and we have very loyal customers here.

“I would like to thank them for voting for us and putting us in the top three again – this is the third year in a row.

“I think we’re special because we take pride in our quality and we like to give good customer service.”

Bob and his family are originally from Wolverhampton but moved up north to follow their business dreams.

John Xenofomtos, owner of Fish Bits on Carr House Road in Doncaster town centre, has always been a part of the fish and chip shop business.

He said: “My grandfather started in fish and chips in 1957 in Liverpool.

“It’s a thing that I was born into not taught – we’ve been doing this for quite a few years.

“It’s a passion and something that we enjoy.”

John says the reason they have done so well in the competition is their customer service.

“We put the customer first – it’s fantastic quality, a decent price and good portions,” he said.
