Alex Oliver has set up her own private counselling business in the last month.

After working as a fully qualified BACP counsellor and psychotherapist for two years she decided to build a new home office where she is seeing clients in Cusworth.

“Currently it can take up to six months to see a professional but lots of people need help right away.”

As Alex is running a private practise her sessions are kept private and not logged unlike mental health care in the NHS which she says is a big bonus for many of her clients.

For an hour's session Alex charges £40 but she is flexible for anyone who is in low income households.

“I believe that everyone should have access to healthcare no matter what their financial situation is,” she continued.

Alex is able to offer face to face sessions as well as telephone or Zoom calls but she says that most of her clients prefer the in person approach.

As a therapist she has noticed an increase in people with heightened anxiety, intense domestic abuse cases and bereavement based issues.

“I would recommend to everyone no matter what they’re going through that they allow themselves to feel the emotions that are going through them,” she said.

“It’s normal to be going through rough times and you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself.

“Pushing emotions away can make it worse.”

Alex says that it’s time to reach out for help if any mental health concern starts impacting daily life and routine.

“I hope that I can ensure people are as comfortable as possible and take some weight off their shoulders.
