The Olde Castle Hotel pub had to change the way it operates due to coronavirus but owners Sam and Craig Teale- Price decided to start a takeaway food service to create revenue.

“During this unprecedented time it’s important to come together and sit down with your family to eat,” said Sam.

People might not want to keep getting the same takeaways of burgers and pizza.

“We’re offering a homemade, locally sourced option with a touch of nostalgia.

“We believe in quality over quantity.”

Sam and his husband Craig are getting the majority of the meat and vegetables for these meals from the Doncaster Market which is located next to their pub.

They have owned the pub since December 2019 and were getting ready to launch their new menu before Covid-19 changed their plans.

Now that menu is being repurposed into a delivery service, some of the items available include: meat pie, lasagne, garlic ciabatta, Yorkshire corn beef hash and Doncaster school favourites chocolate concrete and crumble.

Meals are between £7 - £10.

Sam said: “We have a homemade Sunday lunch with beef dripping and roast potatoes which can be pre-ordered on Just Eat.

“We make it all in the kitchen in the pub and then it is delivered contactlessly.”

Sunday roasts are £8.50 for adults, £4.50 for pensioners and £4.25 for children.

Meals can be delivered for £1.50 within a four-mile radius of the town centre.

He said: “People have been really grateful to get a home-cooked meal - it’s convenient for people but it’s also great Yorkshire cooking.

Key workers are working long shifts and might not have access to the ingredients to make these types of meals, but we do and there is the added bonus that they will not have to wash up afterwards.”

Sam has a background in hospitality and went to college for four years to train as a chef and says that he is enjoying preparing dishes for his customers.
