Jackie’s home in Skellow, Doncaster, has such low water pressure she cannot have a bath or the shower if others on the estate are using water at the same time.

She lives in a former coal board house, which was bought privately many years ago. Most of the estate is now owned by St Leger which she says installed a new system for its council tenants years ago.

But the private properties at her end of the street are not on that improved system.

Doncaster Royal Infirmary orthopaedic nurse Jackie, aged 61, said: “We have had this problem some time now on my stretch of Crossfield Lane. What brought it to a head is I’m a front line nurse working on Covid wards. I’ve been coming home after 12 hour shifts and can’t have a shower.

Yorkshire Water told me if I want an improvement, I’ll have to fund new pipes because the ones that are there now are so old. They say its my responsibity, not theirs. I think this puts health at risk

“We pay the water authority £500 a year. I think they have a duty of care. I’m paying but I’m not gettting the supply.

“It’s fine at 5am, but if I get home at 7.30pm, there is a problem. We shouldn’t have to tolerate this in 2020, but they’re saying its acceptable.”

Yorkshire Water said they did not look after all the pipes in Yorkshire and in some areas customers have a shared private supply pipe that goes from their water main to the home. A statement said: “If this pipe isn’t maintained by the property owners then it can cause some issues with water pressure. We’ve recently visited Crossfield Lane and the water pressure is fine at the boundary so this suggests the private supply pipe needs replacing. There are other options available such as internal plumbing options so it’s probably worth speaking to a plumber to see if there’s any help they can provide.”
