Any Trouble are embarking on the first proper tour since they reformed eight years ago, after more than 20 years apart.

They reformed in 2007 to release a new album and, after a handful of dates over the years, are back with a new record and nine-date tour starting tonight and including a show in Doncaster on Saturday.

Frontman Clive Gregson says: “The band broke up in 1985 in a blaze of apathy. It ran out of steam, but we always remained friends.

“We got back together in 2007, We just did one show and always had it in mind to do again.

We have had a couple of outings, and done a festival in Spain.

“We really enjoyed it, so we decided to make a new record with nine or 10 dates around the country to support that.”

Any Trouble originally formed 40 years ago, releasing five successful albums , as well as several hit singles in the early 80s.

A band spokesman said: “The band’s styles has been described as pub rock, folk-informed new wave, rock ‘n roll, contemporary pop and rock.”

They reformed in 2007, releasing album number six, Life in Reverse, before releasing Present Tense, their latest album, last week, featuring “18 tracks of honest, passionate melodies, most of which are acoustic based.”

Clive says: “I am very proud of the record.

“Bearing in mind we are all a bit older, it still has the hallmarks of what we’re all about, very poppy, rocky songs, good chords and good melodies.

“I think it will appeal to old fans and we’re finding we’re getting new people coming along.”

Clive has released 13 solo albums since the band split in the Eighties, as well as constantly touring both solo, as well as with a variety of different acts – since mid-October he has performed with Three Boxes, Jools Holland and Liz Simcock.

“It’s great to play another reportoire,” he adds.

But he is excited to be back on the road with Any Trouble, including founder member Chris Parks on guitar, long-time drummer Martin Hughes, and bassist Mark Griffiths

“It will be three-quarters old tracks, the singles and big album tracks and about half a dozen new songs, I should think,” he says.

“I have got more than 1,000 songs in my catalogue and some I don’t visit very often, but most songs come back to me with a five-minute rehearsal.

“I have got a reasonably good memory for an ageing 60-year-old and I’m as energetic as a 60-year-old can be.

“We’re all pretty sprightly really. We look after ourselves, plus we have a road manager and he does all the heavy lifting.”

And he says his constant gigging helps keep him fit.

“I play all the time,” he says, “I have to. I get a bit of arthritis in my fingers if I don’t play regularly, my fingers seize up.

“Anyway, there’s no retirement for musicians, we die in the saddle,

“We keep going, but it’s fun and I enjoy it. What else am I going to do?”
