REVIEW: Songs from the shows lead to standing ovations

A talented group of singers had an audience thoroughly entranced when they performed over the weekend.

The Read’s Warblers Show Choir - conducted by the hugely talented Jenny Read - took to the stage at Junction in Goole with a truly outstanding selection of tunes from the land of musical theatre.

Starting the first act off with a lively Circle of Life from the Lion King, the singers impressed until the very last note of the evening, leading to two standing ovations.

Particular favourite for me was the Les Miserables medley, which was performed so superbly it brought an emotional tear to my eye.

The choir was lucky enough to be joined by the uber talented John Derekson who has performed in London’s West End, debuting in Barry Manilow’s musical Copacabana and in Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard in Germany.

His powerful voice was electric, John’s rendition of Stars - performed by Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert in Les Mis - was out of this world, giving me goose bumps.

The next performance for the show choir will be the Christmas concert when they will appear alongside the Read’s Warblers pop choir and The Yorkshire Wolds Versatile Brass Quintet on December 11-13.

I would urge you to go along, you will not be disappointed.
