Double jeopardy as Yorkshire crime writers host criminal evening

Two Yorkshire crime writers, Michael Fowler and Nick Quantrill, are coming together for an evening of crime fiction at Waterstones in Sheffield, Orchard Square on Friday. July 29. from 6.30pm.

The free event is open to lovers of local crime fiction as both authors tell tales from their home towns. The pair will also take part in a Q&A session and be signing copies of their books.

Nick Quantrill’s new novel The Dead Can’t Talk is set in Hull and sees the introduction of two new characters, in disillusioned police officer, Anna Stone and ex-army drifter, Luke Carver. How far will Anna Stone, a disillusioned police officer on the brink of leaving her job, go to uncover the truth about her sister’s disappearance?

Approached by Luke Carver, an ex-Army drifter she’s previously sent to prison, he claims to have information which will help her. As the trail leads from Hull and the Humber’s desperate and downtrodden to its great and good, an unsolved murder twenty-five years ago places their lives in danger, leaving Stone to decide if she can really trust a man who has his own reasons for helping.

Nick (pictured) has been writer in residence at Hull Kingston Rovers and a champion of the city long before it gained its city of culture status.

Michael Fowler is a retired ex-police inspector from South Yorkshire Police. Michael’s DS Hunter Kerr series of books has sold over 40,000 copies and his new DS Scarlet Macey series was just launched last year. Michael draws on over thirty years of police experience to write his novels.

His current novella, Chasing Ghosts, is a standalone fiction featuring, Detective Jack Buchan. Mathew Tobias Alexander has a past. A troubled past. A past he has chosen to hide.

So the disappearance of his girlfriend following a vicious argument, cause him all kinds of dilemmas. While he battles to keep his secrets hidden the appearance of a mysterious Stalker, and Detective Jack Buchan, who is grappling with his own personal demons, add to his woes.
