Delta variant of Covid-19 is rising rapidly in Doncaster - health boss urges people to get vaccinated

Dr Rupert Suckling Director of Public Health in Doncaster said in his weekly report: “This week we’ve seen case rates in Doncaster rise quite rapidly, with the vast majority being the Delta variant.
“The current figure is 78.9 per 100,000 (from June 13 to 19).

Hide Ad“We remain below both the regional and national average rates and the vast majority of spread is being seen in those under the age of 40 - many of whom are yet to be vaccinated.”
The rise in cases has not yet translated into hospitalisation which remains low locally.
“We still need to remember how disruptive Covid is; we are now seeing cases rated similar to those we saw two months ago.
“So please if you do have any symptoms self isolate and book a PCR test right away.”

Hide AdThis weekend has been named ‘Big Weekend’ for Covid vaccinations.
There are a number of drop in centres open across the borough - open to anyone aged 18 or over.
“Getting as many people vaccinated as possible is the best way for us to return to normality by severing the link between catching the virus and hospitalisations and death,” he continued.“We’ve already seen that link weakened by the brilliant vaccination effort so far, but we’re not there just yet.
“Thanks for all you’re doing, let’s keep making safer choices and let’s keep doing this for Doncaster.”
