Mortality rates are as “expected” at hospital
The statistics have been revealed by the NHS Information Centre showing the summary hospital-level mortality indicator (SHMI) score for Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG).
The mortality indicator is a health community-wide measure, relating to deaths in-hospital in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole and out-of-hospital for 30 days after discharge from hospital, ie deaths occurring under GP care, in care homes, or other non-hospital care providers.

The Trust’s acting medical director Lawrence Roberts said: “Patient safety and good quality care is always at the top of our agenda and it’s reassuring to see the mortality rate is as expected.
“Our staff remain focused on reducing the in-hospital rate further, however the out-of-hospital rate is a concern.
“We need to understand and then address the reasons for such a large and unexplained difference and the Trust and its partners in the community are working together to achieve this. This is a really important factor in reducing the SHMI and keeping it within the ‘as expected’ range in the future.”
