Sheffield Crown Court heard on January 21, how Lewis Green, 26, had been transferred to HM Prison Moorland, near Hatfield Woodhouse, Doncaster, when prison staff searched him but failed to find anything until he was spotted in his cell using the phone.
Bev Wright, prosecuting, said: “They could not find anything and placed him in a cell and shortly afterwards a prison officer went back and he was standing there with a phone in his hand.”

He pleaded guilty to possessing an unauthorised item in prison after the search a year ago in January, 2019.
Ms Wright confirmed the phone was about seven centimetres long and Green had hidden it in his anus.
Ben Robinson, defending, said Green had been remanded in custody before he was convicted and transferred to HMP Moorland and someone had given him a phone to contact family.

Judge Jeremy Richardson QC sentenced Green to six-months of custody suspended for 18 months with a rehabilitation requirement and a three-month curfew. He must pay £300 costs.
Judge Richardson suspended the sentence due to Green’s progress and delays in bringing him to justice which he stressed had not been the fault of the court.
