Gig goers can celebrate Yorkshire Day in style thanks to a live music extravaganza at a popular Doncaster pub.

The Leopard in West Street is set to host a Yorkshire Weekend which runs from Friday, July 31, to Sunday, August 2.

The event has been created to make sure Doncaster residents and visitors to the town are celebrating Yorkshire Day in style.

Chris Hone, head of commercial development, said: “The Leopard is a fantastic live music venue which is going from strength to strength.

“It has a great music history and firmly holds a place in Doncaster’s history and in the town’s future.

“What better place to celebrate Yorkshire Day and take the time out to think about what being from Yorkshire is all about?”

The Yorkshire weekend begins with The 48ks performing in the gig room on Friday July 31 with tickets costing £5.

On Yorkshire Day – August 1 - The 3 Yorkshireteers will perform in the lounge.

“This event will see the first 50 people wearing a flat cap get free entry.

“There will also be guest ales and pie and peas,” added Chris.
The weekend will be rounded off on Sunday, August 2, with a special open mic night which will feature a Yorkshire name or two.

The venue has built up a reputation as being one of the town’s best live music venues showcasing up-and-coming bands on its stage, as well as big names including Travis and Foals, Cast, 1980s stars Bad Manners and Charlotte Church among the biggest crowd-pullers.

Doncaster Conferencing, Catering and Events Ltd – which runs the gigs, conferences and bars for Doncaster Dome and the rest of the former Doncaster Council-run leisure centres – took over the pub last summer months after it shut down.

Yorkshire Day is celebrated on August 1 to promote the historic English county of Yorkshire.
