Together again after all this time

A BRASS and voices concert in a village community centre will be a very special affair.

For among those performing will be two old school friends reunited after more than 60 years and, in the audience, will be another seven old classmates.

The reunion in Armthorpe Community Centre on September 24 will take place at a concert of the Armthorpe Elmfield Band and ther Brackley Male Voice Choir.

It follows a meeting in Brackley, Northants, when the band played there and musical director Haydn Griffiths met up with old pal from the village senior boys’ school Dennis Tuby, one of the Brackley choir members, who he hadn’t seen since he was 17. The men are now aged 84.

The event was such a success that a return concert at Armthorpe was arranged.

But what Mr Huby doesn’t know is that Mr Griffiths has arranged for seven of their classmates to also attend, to make the reunion extra special.

The concert will take place at 7pm in the Church Street centre. Tickets are available from the centre, priced at £5, or by telephoning 831646, 833136 or 835188.

Mr Griffiths, who holds an MBE awarded for his services to the band, said: “As a surprise for Dennis when he arrives he will be met by another seven old class friends who are looking forward to meeting him again.”

The band is one of the most popular in the area.
