There will be a touch of Gallic flair when Barnsley town centre hosts a French theme day.
During May half term a family fun day will be held in celebration and preparation for Le Grand Départ as the Tour de France makes its way across Yorkshire in July.
From Monday, May 26 to Wednesday, May 28, fantastic world class performances and free activities will be filling the streets throughout each day from 11.30am to 3.30pm and running until 8pm on Wednesday evening.
Event producer and director of Faceless Arts, Bev Adams, said: “We are delighted to be working with Barnsley Council to programme and premiere new work from two of Barnsley’s excellent arts organisations Qdos Creates and Uplift/The Live Arts Café as well as bringing the best French themed acts from across the UK to Barnsley in advance of le Grand Départ.”
The programme includes L’Hotel by Circo Rum Ba Ba, Cheapside: Monday 26, Tuesday 27, Wednesday 28 May, 12.30pm and 2.15pm daily.
Little Café by Faceless Arts, Cheapside: Monday 26, Tuesday 27, Wednesday 28 May, 11.30pm, 1.15pm and 3pm daily
A charming performance combining live music, magic, puppetry, mask and comedy. This French themed roaming performance follows the farcical trials and tribulations of a stressed-out Maitre D’ as he copes with illusive wine, flying pizza and a wilful café.
C’est La Vie by Qdos Creates, Cheapside: Wednesday, May 28, 11.30am, 1.15pm and 3pm – A sophisticated street café scene in the town centre brought to life through song and dance theatre. This engaging and versatile performance duet will bring a little French culture and style to the streets of Barnsley with its vintage costumes and atmospheric music and there will be much more.
