A family-friendly pub is aiming to carry on its good food reputation despite losing its top class chef after 18 years service.

Owner of the Horse and Groom in Armthorpe, Peter Dodd, said the loss of his chef, Jerome Smith, was like losing “part of the family,” but he wished him well in his new venture as a trainer with training firm IT.

He added: “I have spent a big part of my life with Jerome as a colleague. It is sad to see him go but I wish him well in his new job.”

The chef will be replaced by highly qualified chef Aaran Cannell and Peter is assured the standard of mouthwatering food, which the pub is famous for, will continue.

The Horse and Groom staff are like a family and another who has been part of the scene for the past 18 years is waitress Sharon Brown who Peter has the greatest respect for.

All food served is sourced locally and former butcher Peter even prepares the meat himself on the premises.

He said: “All meat we prepare is bought locally and we even prepare our own burgers. We also buy all vegetables from local suppliers. Everything is prepared fresh each day and we even make our own mouthwatering desserts including cheese cakes and chocolate fudges.”

He added: “We are well known for being a family-friendly pub and making all ages welcome. We are so popular our Christmas meal bookings for 2014 are already two thirds booked.”

The pub also has other things to recommend it apart from its tasty treats. It serves real ales, which are constantly changed. Currently it is serving Bombardier and Doombar, with Marsden’s Chocolate beer to be on tap soon. It also has John Smith’s bitter constantly on tap.

To pull the punters in the pub has a general knowledge quiz Each Tuesday and Thursday. To find out more about what’s on offer at the pub call the Horse and Groom on 01302 831658.
