Young patients on the children’s ward at Doncaster Royal Infirmary have had a magical encounter with the stars of The Panto Company.

As part of the Starlight’s Storytellers Tour, the stars performed pop-up pantomime adaptations of three well-loved children’s classics, Alice in Wonderland, Little Red Riding Hood and Pinocchio.

The plays went down a treat with the children who were laughing and cheering as the four actors sang, danced and performed for them, their families and members of staff.

Patricia Craven, play leader at DRI, said the performances captivated the young audience.

She added: “The Starlight performances always go down well with the children.

“They are a great distraction from any pain or anxiety that our younger patients may be feeling as a result of their illnesses or just being away from home.

“Thank you to Starlight for yet another amazing performance and for getting the children laughing.”

Neil Swan, chief executive of Starlight Children’s Foundation, said: “We know that play can significantly help to improve a child’s hospital experience and Starlight’s Pantomime gives young patients a chance to forget their illness for a short while and simply have some fun.”

Starlight is national charity that grants wishes for seriously and terminally ill children and provides entertainment in hospitals and hospices across the UK.

The eight week long Starlight Storytellers Tour will visit 92 children’s wards at hospitals across the country.

Matt Lee-Alliston, managing director of The Panto Company, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Starlight again to bring interactive storytelling to so many poorly children.

“Our acting troupe are loving being on the road and bring the magic of Starlight storytelling to children’s wards across the country.”
