Comedian Micky Flanagan has set a new Sheffield Arena record after more than 12,000 fans packed in to see him.

The star's An Another Fing tour played to more than 24,000 fans at the venue over the weekend - with one of the shows chalking up record figures for a comedy performance.

The Saturday show drew in 12, 231 fans - the previous attendance record was held by Lee Evans who performed to an audience of 12,061 in September 2014.

A Sheffield Arena spokesman said: “We never thought that the Lee Evans record would be surpassed but the demand for Micky Flanagan tickets has been phenomenal.

"It’s mind blowing to imagine one man on stage keeping over 12,000 fans entertained – comedy is definitely the new rock ‘n’ roll."

Micky’s promoter Ian Coburn said:- “We are delighted to have brought Micky Flanagan’s tour to Sheffield. It is a fabulous city for comedy and a great venue. We look forward to bringing many more shows to the arena in the future.”

Since Eddie Izzard performed the first ever comedy show at the venue in 2003, 21 different comedy artistes have performed over 74 shows to more than half a million comedy fans over the last fourteen years.
