Doncaster’s long history and rich heritage were celebrated at the weekend as the Romans marched into town to celebrate the St Leger Festival.
Hundreds flocked to catch a glimpse of the Romans, with gladiator contests, military displays and marches through town.
Children were even given the chance to join the Roman Army.
The event was one of more than 200 taking place across the borough to celebrate the oldest classic horse race in the world.
Racing will kick off tomorrow at Doncaster Racecourse, culminating in the Ladbrokes St Leger Day this Saturday which will feature the world’s oldest classic horse race.
