Paine’s life and work and the history of the Mansion House will be featured in a series of illustrated talks on Saturday, March 25, from 1.30pm-4.30pm, and there will be an opportunity to view a new exhibition about him.

From 10am-noon there will be guided tours of the building and live music by the Doncaster Waites will be playing during the event.

Chair of the Friends, Bob Fitzharris said: “James Paine designed our Mansion House in 1749 and created one of the jewels in Doncaster’s crown.

“What better way to mark the 300th year since his birth with an event at the Mansion House one of his earliest and most significant buildings.”

Councillor Bill Mordue, Doncaster Council’s cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said: “The Mansion House is a wonderful building which has had a central place in Doncaster’s history for over 250 years.

“James Paine launched his career in this area and went on to design local landmarks like Cusworth Hall and Hickleton Hall.

“With the help of the Friends of Doncaster Mansion House, the council, and an award from the Heritage Lottery Fund, this fascinating heritage is now available to everyone.”

This is a free event but anyone wanting to attend needs a ticket, available on 01302 734309.
