A Doncaster butcher could have an acting career “in store” having been selected to appear in the Morrisons TV advertising campaign.
Antony Ward, 34, who lives in Doncaster but works as a butcher at the Morrisons store in Knottingley, is one of the stars of the new ads, which launched on TV screens across the country earlier this week.
In the 40 second advert, Morrisons Market Street is taken out of the stores and recreated as an outside, bustling market. Antony, who has worked for Morrisons for 12 years, joins fellow store specialists from up and down the country who take on the role of market traders, setting up for the morning’s business and putting the finishing touches to their stalls.
Ant and Dec are seen walking down the cobbled streets enamoured by the wares and great prices they find on Market Street. Just like in his own store, Antony is seen behind the butchers counter before he offers the boys a “nice bit of beef”, whilst saying “there’s your Sunday lunch sorted”. It is the second time Antony has appeared in a national advertising campaign for the brand.
Building on last year’s campaign, which focused on Morrisons in-store specialists, the latest ad is all about putting Market Street on the map as the destination for unbeatable fresh value.
Antony said: “Ant and Dec were so friendly and it was great to see they remembered me from last year! We all had a nice chat about what we’d each been up to, which my pals are all jealous about. In fact some of them call me ‘Hollywood’ now as a bit of a joke. I do really enjoy working at Morrisons – in particular being able to be a bit creative with how I present the meat on the counter to make really fantastic displays our customers love.”
Belinda Youngs, Morrisons Corporate Brand Marketing Director, said: “Our latest advert demonstrates the pride we have in our Market Street prices, products and of course, our skilled and friendly colleagues. They are real stars of the advert alongside Ant and Dec. Antony was perfect for the role and he couldn’t have been more professional on set. We might have started to worry about losing him to a career in acting if we didn’t know he was such a dedicated butcher!”
