Doncaster-born Alex James was the warm-up DJ for Robbie Williams and Olly Murs recently.

He might be a Rock DJ but Robbie Williams stepped back to let Doncaster’s Alex James take over the decks as the superstar’s warm-up act!

Cusworth-born Alex was the man to gear up the bumper crowd of around 60,000 at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium before show-stopping solo duo Olly Murs and former Take That heart-throb Williams.

Alex, a former Ridgewood School and Danum Academy pupil, is the presenter of the country’s most listened-to evening radio show IN:DEMAND.

He was invited by Williams to help his tour having formed a strong friendship with the Candy singer.

“It’s a pretty big deal to have firstly been invited by Robbie and then to be part of his show along with Olly Murs

“He’ll never tell you that though because he’s very laid-back,” said proud brother Nathan Atkinson.

Earlier this year, former Doncaster resident Alex was also the host of the press conference where the concert dates were launched.

Alex’s show IN:DEMAND can be heard on weekday nights from 7pm until 10pm on Hallam FM.
