ROVERS scheduled trip to Crystal Palace and the Knights’ rearranged visit to London Welsh have both been postponed due to a frozen pitches while local matches have also bitten the dust.

A local referee inspected the pitch at Palace’s Selhurst Park home at lunchtime and deemed certain areas unplayable.

Palace chief executive Phil Alexander said: “Our first priority is to the safety of the players and some areas of the pitch were frozen.

“We are also very conscious of travelling supporters and wanted to make a decision as soon as possible.”

A pitch inspection was carried out later in the day at Old Deer Park but achieved the same outcome.

The Knights have been saved another wasted journey after they made the trip to the capital last weekend only for the match to be called off with less than an hour’s notice.

All matches due to take place on pitches owned by Doncaster Council this weekend have already been called off.

Bentley Good Companions’ first ever Challenge Cup game is in doubt with the pitch of opponents Oldham St Annes deemed unplayable.

However, both clubs are in contact with the Rugby Football League in the hope of finding an alternative venue for tomorrow’s game.

A pitch inspection will be held at the International Stadium on Saturday, where the Dons are scheduled to meet Gateshead Thunder in the Northern Rail Cup a day later.

Pitch inspections are also planned at Armthorpe Welfare and Askern Villa at 10am on Saturday morning with games against Bridlington Town and Yorkshire Amateur respectively in doubt.
