Snooker legends cue up at Dome
SNOOKER fans in Doncaster will hit the jackpot next year - as their sporting heroes 'cue up' for a night of nostalgia at the Dome.
Former world champion Cliff Thorburn, Jimmy 'the Whirlwind' White and Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins will be in town for an evening of exhibition frames and potty anecdotes.
They will be joined on a trip down memory lane by John Parrot and John Virgo.
And one lucky spectator will get the chance to team up with the legends in a special one-off match inside the Dome's 3,000 capacity sports hall.
Canadian Thorburn, whose nickname 'The Grinder' was born out of his excellent defensive game, became the first overseas player to win the World Snooker Championship in 1980.
He said: "I'm looking forward to coming over to the UK again and playing against Jimmy, and also against Alex as it will be almost 30 years to the day since our world final.
"I very much enjoy meeting the fans who support me," he added.
"They will be pleased to know I no longer have much patience for safety play."
Andy O'Grady, from the Dome, said: "Snooker has a real loyal following in Doncaster and the surrounding areas, so this event is something for those fans to really look forward to.
"It is one of those evenings that everyone around here will get excited
about as the time approaches.
"Having people like Cliff Thorburn, Jimmy White and Alex Higgins here under the same roof to entertain the public is a real treat for us."
Tickets for the Snooker Legends event, to be held on July 16 next year, will be available soon from the Dome ticket office.
