School bids to play at Twickenham

A DONCASTER primary school can celebrate earning a very special winner's 'tag'.

Youngsters from Thorne Green Top ran rings around their opposition to win the recent Yorkshire RFU Tag Rugby Festival in Pontefract.

The school will now represent the county at next week's national finals where the best two sides - out of 25 schools from across the country still remaining in the competition - will win the chance to play at Twickenham before an England game.

Thorne Green Top Primary won eight of their nine matches at the festival to progress to the next stage.

Rossington's Pheasant Bank Primary made it through to the last eight before bowing out of the competition.

The festival is part of an ongoing campaign by the RFU to encourage children to participate in sport and pursue healthier lifestyles.

Green Top's winning squad were captain Jared Roach, Bailey Wilson, Kieron McKenna, Jordon Linley, David Smith, Thomas Smith, Jack Wright, Brooke Richardson, Helena Parlett, Shannon Smith, Courtney Clarke.
