BRETT Davey insists his Knights side set the standard for the season with their response to the first half horror show at Cornish Pirates last weekend.

After slipping to a 36-11 half time deficit at Mennaye Field with a performance director of rugby Davey labelled ‘embarrassing’, the Knights produced a brilliant turnaround and almost snatched a draw with the final move of the match.

And now Davey has urged his players to carry on where they left off and secure a first win of the season when Moseley come to Castle Park on Saturday (2.30pm).

He said: “To be honest I sat there at half time last Saturday and my world had fallen apart.

“We were looking down the barrel of a real heavy defeat if we carried on in that manner.

“I think there was a major sense of embarrassment about the performance in the first half because we were all over the place.

“I reminded them we were all in it together and the response was fantastic.”
