Doncaster Phoenix slipped to third in Yorkshire One despite winning 20-17 at Pontefract.

Dinnington moved ahead of the Castle Park side on scoring difference when they ran in nine tries on their way to a 53-5 victory at bottom placed Acklam.

Phoenix were made to work hard for their second win this season against Pontefract.

And, like the last encounter, it was a tight affair.

Craig Deakin was the hero for Phoenix, adding two tries to his tally for the season.

Scott Plevey weighed in with Doncaster’s third try and Dan Storey also made a telling contribution with a conversion and a penalty.

The points could prove invaluable to Phoenix, they are third in the Yorkshire One table but are level on points with Dinnington and trail top dogs Ilkley by four.
