Relegated from the Premiership the previous season, the Exiles never looked like mounting a serious challenge for the play-offs last season – though they were the only side to do the double over the Castle Park side.

Welsh have made a mixed start to the season, winning both their Pool 2 games in the British & Irish Cup, but are languishing in the bottom half of the league table having won just two of their opening six fixtures.

But with two of the defeats being by the odd point, Knights boss Clive Griffiths is not underestimating the size of the task in the capital.

“They are a good side and they’ve got some very good players,” he told The Star.

“They’ve kept the nucleus of last season’s team and have added to their strength in depth.

“Old Deer Park is always a tough place to go so we’ll have to be on our mettle.”

Knights, who expect to have several injured players back on duty, have lost three of their four away league and cup games this season.

However, Griffiths insists that the club don’t have a problem on the road.

“We didn’t have a problem away from home last season and we don’t have one this season,” he claimed.

“We haven’t played as consistently well this season - either at Castle Park or away from home - and we’ve been making too many individual errors.

“It’s something we are working on but we aren’t far off where we want to be.”

Knights have lost at London Irish and Ealing Trailfinders in the league this term.
