KNIGHTS returned to winning ways by edging past Championship bottom club Esher.
Brett Davey was furious with his team’s display at home to Nottingham a week earlier but Doncaster bounced back by claiming a maximum five-point haul.
Esher drew first blood when centre Phil Mackenzie touched down for an eighth minute try which full back Rob Kirby converted.
Doncaster hit back through left winger Michael Keating on 21 minutes, the conversion added by full back David McIlwaine.
And the pair teamed up in similar fashion on the half hour to put Doncaster into a narrow 14-7 lead at the break.
Knights’ lead was extended six minutes into the second period when flanker Latu Makaafi touched down.
Esher’s Rob Kirby pulled back a penalty shortly after but McIlwaine matched it and then converted a 60th minute try from right winger Dougie Flockhart as the visitors extended their lead to 29-10.
However, Esher were not about to roll over and, after Kirby kicked another penalty, prop Robin Boot touched down five minutes from time and Kirby converted.
Knights host London Welsh on Saturday (2.30pm), with the club operating a buy one ticket, get one free scheme.
