Pace ace Sam Edgerley is looking to make an impact for the Knights as he steps up to 15-a-side rugby.

The 23-year-old half back has represented England in the Sevens World Series for the last three years but is leaving that behind to focus on the long form of the game.

“I am absolutely buzzing to get started at Doncaster,” he said. “It’s a great club, I’m looking forward to meeting all the lads and getting stuck into pre season.

“It is a new and exciting challenge for me, switching from the full time England Sevens set up and back into a full time fifteen-a-side environment.

“I hope I can make a positive impact at the club both on and off the field.”

Edgerley was first spotted for the England Sevens outfit while part of London Irish’s academy where he also represented England U18.

Given his superb pace, it is no surprise he began his rugby career as a winger.

Around his playing schedule for the Sevens, Edgerley has had spells with Esher and Rosslyn Park.

The Knights have announced that Jack Maplesden has left the club in order to move closer to Bristol University where he is studying.

Director of rugby Clive Griffiths said: “It makes sense for Jack to put all his energies into playing down in the South West and we hope that maybe we’ll see him in a Doncaster shirt in seasons to come.”
