DAN Smith has been handed the chance to impress on the wing when Doncaster Knights go in search of a much-needed victory against Scottish Premiership side Melrose on Saturday (2.30pm).
Knights go into their first British and Irish Cup game without a win in their last 16 competitive fixtures.
Former lock forward Smith will make his first start since Doncaster’s pre-season game with Newcastle Falcons in August.
Player coach Tom Luke returns from injury to play at fly half, with Jamie Lennard switching to full back.
Director of rugby Brett Davey has also handeed starts to Andy Brown, David Bradford and Andy Boyde for the cross-border fixture at Castle Park.
Melrose are currently third in the Scottish Premiership with five wins from seven games.
