The Knights squad are desperate to repay the faith of their supporters against Esher this weekend, according to Clive Griffiths.

The director of rugby was full of praise for the fans who witnessed the defeats on the road at Henley and Blaydon.

“I don’t think I praised the travelling support enough after the defeat at Blaydon,” Griffiths said.

“They were fantastic from start to finish and they deserve more than they were given and hopefully we can quickly repay them.

“It was a quiet team coach on the way back to Doncaster.

“The players were disappointed with the outcome of the game and we all felt more could have been done to get the win.

“They, like me, are determined to repay the supporters in this huge game at Castle Park on Saturday.”

Griffiths delivered an emotive after match press conference following the 22-17 defeat at Blaydon, with his frustration clear to see after the Knights were toppled from the summit of National One.

“It’s not good at the moment, there are a lot of disgruntled Doncaster supporters, a lot of disgruntled Doncaster coaches and players but that’s the form we’re going through and we have to take it,” he said.

“Teams are rubbing their hands in glee at the thought of taking us on because of the situation we are in.

“But we just have to hang in there and hope that we’re not too detached from the title race until we get all our players back and maybe get some bodies on board.”

Griffiths is hoping for a packed house at Castle Park on Saturday in the early kick off with table topping Esher.

The Knights’ 100 per cent home record remains intact.
