Youngsters at Balby Carr Academy had a ball thanks to Oxford Rugby League.

Coaches from the Championship One club paid a special visit to the Doncaster school to give a motivational talk to a group of Year 9-13 students.

Following a presentation and classroom tasks, pupils took part in a coaching session and rugby match.

Balby’s director of sport Miss Bain said: “We have made a very good link with Oxford Rugby League which will continue. The coaches from ORL were so impressed with the group that they are going to continue to work with them throughout the year and are even going to arrange a visit to Oxford.

Adrian Smith, managing director of Oxford RL, said: “We didn’t quite know what to expect from being in a classroom for the first time in over 30 years but we were really struck by the genuine open nature and atmosphere in the room from the students and staff. It was terrific and the group were a credit to Balby Carr, the teachers and more importantly themselves.”
