Doncaster Toll Bar retained top spot in Pennine League Division One following their 42-20 win over bottom club Selby.

“It was a more difficult game than expected,” said head coach Ian Tattersall, whose side trailed 16-0 after 20 minutes.

Toll Bar hit back with Gaz Carey and Carl Oakes touching down for tries, both converted by Phil Harrison, to cut Selby’s interval lead to 16-12.

The visitors improved after the break with props Rob Brown and Sam Eyre, who shared the man-of-the-match award, leading the way.

Shane Southgate (2),Phil Harrison, Aaron Rodwell and Carey added second half tries with Harrison converting all but one, as Toll Bar claimed their eighth win in nine league starts this season.

Toll Bar go to Bradford-based Wyke in the second round of the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy this weekend.

Moorends Thorne Marauders return to Championship action this weekend at Queensbury. Bentley Good Companions go to Birkenshaw.
