The Dons travel to Keighley Cougars in the IPro Sport Cup next Sunday ahead of the start of their League 1 campaign.

Thornton was far from pleased with some of the performances on show in their final pre-season friendly, a defeat to Challenge Cup holders Hull FC last weekend.

“A few players have played themselves out of the starting squad,” Thornton said.

“But some have played themselves into it.

“But Jamie Thackray was once again superb and we did miss Feka out there.”

Before the weekend’s match it was announced that Iafeta ‘Feka’ Palea’aesina would be granted a three month testimonial starting with a collection at the game against Hull.

“It’s brilliant news that Feka has got his testimonial,” Thornton said.

“His devotion to the game is great and his determination to get things done is second to none.”
