ROVERS LADIES SAY NO

DONCASTER Rovers Ladies team has decided not to go ahead with the proposed merger with Doncaster Belles following a vote of members this week.

DONCASTER Rovers Ladies team has decided not to go ahead with the proposed merger with Doncaster Belles following a vote of members this week.

Rovers WFC secretary Terry Kendal said that 77 members had voted against the merger with only one in favour.

But a merger between Belles and Doncaster Rovers is still on the cards with the Belles still keen to play in the proposed new soccer stadium.

The amalgamation idea was first raised when the Women's FA said they would like to see the top Premier League clubs merging with professional clubs in the men's game.

Large cash incentives are available and as Belles are one of the leading clubs in the women's game they received overtures from big name teams - but decided they would like to stay in Doncaster.

Rovers Ladies have always been run separately from Doncaster Rovers and will now go it alone possibly under a new name but Belles general manager Mick Abrahams said: "We are disappointed they are not coming in with us but it makes no difference to the overall plan.

"We want to go in with Doncaster Rovers and I am sure it will happen."
