FREE Press sports reporter Paul Goodwin has been nominated for a prestigious award.

Our man will go up against the Yorkshire Post’s Richard Sutcliffe and Radio Sheffield’s Paul Walker for the coveted Yorkshire Sports Journalist of the Year crown at next month’s O2 Media Awards in Leeds.

Paul, a runner up in the same category last year, impressed the judges with a portfolio including features that saw him go on trial with local non-league side Armthorpe Welfare (pictured) and try his hand at indoor bowls.

Paul’s entry of work also included his weekly Doncaster Rovers ‘The Verdict’ column, an exclusive interview with Rovers chairman John Ryan and his Sport Matters opinion page.

The 30-year-old, originally from Sunderland, began his journalism career at the Doncaster Free Press in 2006.
