FREE Press sports reporter Paul Goodwin picked up a prize at the O2 Yorkshire Media Awards on Wednesday night - and met a very special guest in the process.
Paul, 30, was presented with a commendation in the Sports Journalist of the Year category by eight-year-old star Evan Whitton.
Cerebral palsy sufferer Evan, from Silsden near Keighley, recently walked to school for the first time following a successful operation.
The inspirational youngster, who spent his early years in a wheelchair, said he had been motivated by a school project about the Olympics.
The O2 judges said Paul, who joined the Free Press as a trainee news reporter in 2006, showed a wonderful appreciation of his readers.
They added: “Paul is a switched on reporter who cleverly uses social media alongside traditional print methods to deliver news and comment to an eagerly awaiting audience.
“Although clearly a football nut his writing showed a passion for all sports.”
