GOLF mad juniors at Hickleton have raised more than £1,000 by playing round the clock.

Junior captain Nathan Beresforde and fellow youngsters Jak Lee, Aidan Willis and Jamie Clarke completed six rounds at Hickleton during a fundraising golf marathon.

After the six rounds there was only 11 shots difference in the top four cards.

The money they have raised will be split between the Help for Heroes charity and the club’s junior section.

Junior organiser Derek Brough said: “The lads just came to me with the idea of doing a golf marathon to try and raise some money.

“We’re hoping they’ll collect about £1,200 in total so it has been a great effort all round.”

*Alison Knowles continued her fine form by winning the English Women’s Golf Association Volvo Regional Medal Final and now goes on to the grand final later in the year.

Knowles won the Northern Schools Championship in May after prevailing in the South Yorkshire Schools event at Hickleton for the fourth year in succession.

She has won the Hickleton Ladies Championship for the last ten years and the juniors scratch for six years years in succession.

Aidan Willis (handicap 8) Dominic Howell (9) and Luke Palmowski won the Sheffield Union Junior Championship at Roundwood Golf Club and now go on to July’s grand final at Hallamshire.
