Doncaster sit-ski star Mick Brennan admitted a small insight into the state of the Sochi Super-G course played into his hands as he finished in good time to place eighth in the super combined event on Friday.

Brennan earned himself another top-ten finish at his debut Winter Paralympics after getting down the Super-G course in 1:25.89 minutes to give him a super combined total time of 2:40.74.

The 34-year-old was stopped midway through his run, however, after the athlete before him, Norway’s Thomas Jacobsen, had crashed in the finishing area.

And Brennan admitted that having made a few mistakes during the first part of his void run, he was glad to get another shot with his confidence improved.

“It was a difficult race, there were more people in the class and I got up to the top quite early so I had more time to think about it and the nerves were kicking in,” said Brennan, who completes his Sochi 2014 adventure on Saturday with the giant slalom.

“Fear on the steeper pitches was a good fear because it gave me confidence that I had to attack them and ski smooth like I have been in training.

“Coming down over the first pitch I saw the yellow flag waving so once I was on the flat I came to a controlled stop but I then knew the speed wasn’t a problem for me.

“I had made a few mistakes on the top section so it gave me a look at what I can improve on for the second run so I was pleased.

“I got back up to the top and they were trying to usher me back into the start gate a bit before I was ready to do that so it was good that the coaches said I will go when I am ready.

“I cut into the Japanese guy who was in front of me so that was my aim, try and go down and beat somebody, as I had already lost a race by crashing in the slalom.”
