Taekwondo teen Owen Turner hopes to have turned the head of Great Britain selectors after returning from the Austrian Open with a gold medal.

The 14-year-old, from Armthorpe, won five matches on his way to securing victory in the prestigious G1 event in Innsbruck.

He is now hoping to be chosen to represent Great Britain in the Junior European Championships in Cyprus in November.

Turner, a reigning European champion at cadet level, is in his first year competing as a junior against 14-18-year-olds.

He beat Giovanni Quagileri (France) 6-5, Aytekin Simsek (Germany) 4-2, Nenad Mrchkovski (Macedonia) 6-1, Marwane Hammani (Belgium) 2-0 and Gabriele Caulo (Italy) 18-3 to win gold in Austria.
