GAVIN McDonnell put in the slickest performance of his career so far to comfortably beat Elemir Rafael at the Dome.
McDonnell’s movement and shot selection throughout the fight was excellent and ensured he strolled to a 40-36 points win with little trouble.
As the fight wore on it almost became somewhat of a training exercise for McDonnell as Rafael offered little in return.
But to his credit, the Hatfield fighter never dropped his effort and produced a thoroughly professional performance.
Rafael was troubled in the first round by a particularly strong combination but it was McDonnell’s footwork that was his most effective weapon, darting in and out in all directions.
There was no rushing in from McDonnell ¬– who had a decent height advantage – and his accuracy throughout was excellent.
