‘SMOKIN’ Joe Frazier is coming to town, writes Peter Catt.

The boxing legend who beat Muhammad Ali in the so called ‘Fight of the Century’ in 1971 is to speak at a night being held in his honour next month.

Local entrepreneur and fight fan Andy Booker has helped organise the evening, which will be Frazier’s first appearance in the north of England, at Skellow Grange club on May 13.

Booker, a personal friend of Mike Tyson, brought former world champion Joe Calzaghe to the same venue recently and has also helped attract visits to the town from boxing idols Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns and Roberto Duran.

He said: “Joe is a legend of the ring but he’s not often in this country and has never visited this part of the world before.
