THE town’s biggest table tennis competition proved to be a massive hit with players from across the borough - but it was the usual suspects who walked away with the trophies!

Some of the region’s most talented youngsters and seniors descended on Danum School for Doncaster & District Table Tennis Association’s annual tournament.

Peglers pair Dave Grocock and Mick Thornley (pictured) dominated the seniors events, while St Mary’s youngster Liam Wynn added to his growing reputation by winning the junior under 15 and First Division handicap singles.

Grocock got the better of his doubles partner Thornley 3-1 to win the Veterans (40+) singles crown.

The pair teamed up to defeat Greg Barker and Chris Senior (St.Mary’s) 3-2 in a thrilling league doubles final.

Thornley also defeated Barker 3-2 to win the league singles title.

Wynn beat club mate Conor Morris 3-0 to secure the U15 title and beat YMCA’s Adam Barrett to lift the First Division handicap.

Other winners: junior singles (U18): Chris Hazard (Peglers); league handicap doubles: Ivan Beckett, Paul Konevod (YMCA); Premier Division handicap singles: Tom Wilkinson, veterans singles (55+): John Peters (Peglers).
