Showjumper Nicky Bell has won the 2014 Senior Show Jumping 85cm at the Nettex Trailblazers Championships.

Bell, 42, from Hatfield, emerged victorious at the recent ten day event at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire.

Amateur riders qualify for the event over two rounds of qualification competitions at over 65 venues throughout the UK, and Bell came out on top at the end of the championships.

Nicky and her nine-year-old horse Silver Dollar took first place in just their fourth time riding together.

Bell also works as a nurse and as a result is only able to compete around work commitments and started going to showjumping events for fun.

But after claiming her title she is determined to continue enjoying going to the events with her friends, and savour the occasion regardless of competition results.

“The atmosphere is amazing, especially when in the line-up with the applause and the music, even if you’re not the champion,” she said.

“I absolutely love it.”

The Trailblazer Championship events include showing, dressage, showjumping and combined training.

They are becoming increasingly popular due to their accessibility for amateurs and recreational competitors.

First round qualifying competitions are already underway for the 2015 Trailblazers National Championships.
