CASTLE Hills and Sunnyfields Primary Schools moved a step closer to appearing at Headingley Carnegie Stadium by reaching the next stage of the Drax Cup.

They finished joint top of a round robin group that included Owston Park, Shaw Wood and Kirk Sandall to qualify for the South Yorkshire Area final of the soft ball competition at Barnsley later this month.

Sunnyfields had got the better of Castle Hills a week earlier at the Bentley Y4 cricket festival - but the honours went to Castle Hills when the schools clashed again at Brodsworth CC last Friday.

There were just four runs in it as Sunnyfields posted 232 in response to Castle Hills’ 236.

But the result still meant that both teams qualified for the next stage and remain in with a chance of playing at the home of Yorkshire CCC.
