The Doncaster-based team dominated the final round of the Intercollegiate Golf Tour at Retford to ease through to May’s final, which this year will be held at Moortown Golf Club in Leeds.

The course was made challenging by gusty winds but that did not stop Luke Palmowski (+1, Hickleton Golf Club) leading the way by shooting a five under par 66.

Owen Musgrave (3, Forest Pines) came in with a level handicap 74, Tom Guttridge (5, Rotherham) 74, Harrison Naylor (5, Phoenix Golf Club) 71, Harry Emmingham (5, Birley Wood Golf Club) 75 and Nicola Slater (1, Lindrick Golf Club) 76.

Balby’s combined score was 276, a convincing 11 shots clear of second-placed Derby. The Doncaster team’s nett score was 267, 13 clear of the same runners-up.

Balby were crowned national champions at Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club last year. They were also victorious at the Yorkshire Schools’ Golf Championship and reached the finals of the British Schools and Colleges League.

Balby are seeking an individual or company to sponsor its elite squad. For more details contact Ian Lindley by emailing [email protected] or phoning 08453451629.
