Ryde romps home in Owston Ferry 10k

Doncaster Athletic Club’s Carl Ryde showed the field a clean pair of heels in Sunday’s Owston Ferry 10k road race.

Ryde romped home with nearly three minutes to spare in a time of 33 minutes 31 seconds.

Men’s captain Martin James, eighth overall, finished second in the vet-40 race in a time of 37.27.

Paul Bond, 33rd overall in a time of 42.15, won the vet-55 race.

Sharon Maughan, 144th overall, finished second in the women’s vet-45 race in 54.22 with teenager Ellie Watts (56.57) also finishing runner-up in the under-19 race.

Simon Wright posted a time of 17.24 when winning Saturday’s 5k park run at Sandal Park.

The club return to British Men’s Athletics League Division Four action at Bedford this weekend in the third of their four fixtures hoping to build on an encouraging showing last time out.

n The annual Sprotbrough Gala 6.5km family fun will take place on Sunday.

Starting and finishing at the village’s New Lane playing field, the race (2pm) caters for all age groups. Entries will be taken on the day.
