Mill Springs appears to be the second string for John Gosden in the Londonmetric Noel Murless Stakes, but she can still prove up to the task in the Listed heat at Ascot.

Frankie Dettori partners Secateur for the same yard in the one-mile-six-furlong heat but preference is for Mill Springs, who will want for nothing from the saddle as Robert Havlin will take the reins.

The Shirocco filly and her stablemate share the top rating of 95 in what is not the strongest Listed contest, but Mill Springs should find it a more suitable task after trying her hand in Group Two company last time out.

She made little impact behind another Gosden runner, Gretchen, in the Park Hill Stakes but given her only previous win had been in a Chepstow maiden, Pattern level is probably beyond her right now.

That said, she was not disgraced in being beaten six lengths and just lacked the gears of her rivals in the finish.

Mill Springs tackles 14 furlongs once more and against lesser rivals, she might just be smart enough.

Flying Hammer can bring up his hat-trick in the Troy Asset Management Handicap.

Beaten on his only juvenile start last year, William Haggas’ charge has made up for lost time this term, winning on each of his outings at Chepstow and Kempton.

He scored by a comfortable length and a half on the first occasion and while the margin of victory at Kempton was only a short head, he was value for the distance as he endured a troubled passage and had to deal with a particularly resolute runner-up.

Flying Hammer deserves plenty of credit for that effort and the return to turf is not off-putting.

Sunset Sail has been on the premises in his last couple of outings and can finally enjoy his moment in the sun in the Winning Post Bookmakers Handicap.

He only conceded defeat in the dying strides when a three-quarter-length fourth at Salisbury on his most recent outing and Tom Marquand’s 3lb claim is another huge positive here.

Akeed Champion let down favourite backers when last seen but should be given chance to redeem himself in the Veolia Handicap.
