A quartet of favourites head the field for the 2014 Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster following today’s final declarations.

A strong field goes forward into Saturday’s field, headed by Off Art, Captain Cat, Gabrial’s Kaka and Tullius, all priced at 8/1 by race sponsors William Hill.

Each of the four have received the traditionally favoured high draws of 14, 15, 16 and 22 respectively.

Defending champion Levitate is currently priced at 12/1 has been drawn in stall eight while 2011 winner Sweet Lightning has stall 18 and is priced at 33/1.

Runners that failed to make the cut for the Lincoln are permitted to enter consolation race, the Spring Mile which takes place earlier on Saturday afternoon.

The going is currently good, from good, good to firm in places but conditions are likely to only get softer heading into Saturday.

Clerk of the course Roderick Duncan said: “The forecast for the next 24-hours has deteriorated.

“It is now possible that South Yorkshire might get 10mm to 20mm of rainfall.

“This is arriving from the East so we will not be protected by the Pennines as we have through the winter.

“The ground is certain to ease on this forecast

“The weather is expected to be improving, getting warmer and drier throughout Saturday and Sunday, so Sunday’s meeting could have the best ground.”
