A battling Epworth Ladies netball side could not overcome a powerful performance from league leaders Adwick.

Lining up at Hayfield School, Epworth were unable to stop an experienced Adwick side from running out 48-19 winners.

Despite the result, Epworth gave a good account of themselves in the Doncaster Summer League encounter in which they adapted their usual style to match Adwick’s direct play.

However, the lost ground in the first quarter was not regained despite a large amount of possession enjoyed by Epworth with Erika Phoenix and Kirstie Hinds working hard at goal defence and goal keeper.

Sam Croxall at wing defence made some strong interceptions and read the game well as she fed the ball effectively through the centre third.

Captain and player of the match Loraine Roberts at centre and wing attack Hayley Astle showed good teamwork in feeding the ball to the shooters with their relentless work-rate.

Goal attack Cassie Ellis and goal shooter Sarah Mason showed mettle against an aggressive defence.

The pair tried several long range efforts, which increased Epworth’s scoreline, but a strong Adwick outfit powered towards victory.
